Health Links
Here are just a few of the health sites / pages I think worth visiting. None are super technical.
Some I have used in research for my own writings. Others are listed
just because I like their approach. I try to omit any that offer
quack pills or theories.
The links I show here and in my books are mostly gateways to many, many more.
Please inform me of any sites you think should be added or dropped, and why.
seniornet.org is focused on older readers, but their advice is good for other ages. Here is their "How To Search the Web for Trustworthy Health Information"
Good medical resource, mayoclinic.com,
includes alternative medicine information, and pokes holes in health fantasies / frauds.
American Heart Association says this about walking, as both a prevention for heart attack and as a followup treatment. "The pace that feels right probably is."
CDC = U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
http://www.cdc.gov/.
That's where I got my quote: "Seven of 10 deaths, or more than 1.7 million each year, are caused by chronic diseases."
They go on to say that the major risk factors for chronic diseases are "tobacco use, poor nutrition, and lack of physical activity."
United Health Foundation says it quite plainly, "Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. today, closely trailing smoking."
NIH = U.S. National Institutes of Health
http://www.nih.gov/
MedlinePlus by U.S. National Library of Medicine and the U.S.
National Institutes of Health
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/
Online Wellness Center of Vanderbilt University, http://vanderbiltowc.wellsource.com
Rallie McAllister, MD, wrote "Healthy Lunchbox: The Working Mom's Guide to Keeping You and Your Kids Trim". Her words appear in columns
and TV, as well as her site http://www.rallieonhealth.com/
Neglect of our bodies has become such a problem in
North America that the U.S. President's Council on Physical
Fitness has defined "Sedentary Death Syndrome" (SeDS) to
focus on this major behavioral cause of death in adults, and it is
not totally limited to seniors.
Of course, the old term was "fat and lazy."
By the way, drug companies often are NOT best source of health information, as demonstrated in my article http://easyhealthdiet.com/articles/DrugCompaniesHijackClinton'sHeartNews.htm
News Directory organized by subject, including Healthy eating
and Exercise.
R-TT Directory example: Easy Exercise All Ages for Long Life
Stan Daniloski's "earthstation9.com" is an eclectic source of "information that cannot be found using search engines". Continue the good practice of reading any source with skepticism. One of his links (http://cat007.com/insulin.htm)
says "Your primary fuel should be coming from fat.", which is totally WRONG for people who are not physical laborers, such as old-time farmers, stevedores, or knights in combat. (Sorry, Ronald Rosedale, M.D., but you are way off target.)
Here are some links to directories which list health related sites.
